Serbal White Blend 2024
Atamisque
With the very best will in the world, we’ve tried selling Argentine Sauvignon Blanc a number of times and it’s a bit like trying to pour the North Sea into a milk bottle. But never ones to give up entirely we thought – whilst at the winery in October 2023 – how a bout a blend using a good splash of Sauvignon? Actually, we began by telling winemaker Philippe Caraguel in advance of our meeting that we’d like to have a go at creating a white blend for the Serbal range, because white blends are a thing we get very excited by. Philippe agreed to give it a go, and we began with a 50 / 50 blend of Chardonnay and Viognier. Most pleasant as this was, we already have both of these grapes as Serbal single varietals. Sauvignon Blanc was the obvious place to go and after a few rounds of playing with pipettes from tank samples, this blend is what we came up with. It has been very well received!
Although Sauvignon Blanc is the least dominant component proportionally, it is the most dominant in aromatic terms, with lovely grassy / gooseberry aromas up-front alongside white flowers and a hint of peach from the Viognier. It all comes together quite seamlessly and charmingly in the mouth, with the Chardonnay binding things together as only good old Chardonnay can. We are rather proud of our white blend, and we hope you will try it soon.
