malbec de parcela 2019
As the name of this wine suggests, the fruit comes from a very special, small parcel of vines whose exact location Juanfa will not disclose out of superstition. Winemakers, eh? What is abundantly clear, though, is the immense concentration and purity of the fruit here. Like the ‘basic’ Malbec, Altamira hallmarks sing through on the nose – dried violets, wild red fruits and notes of stone / mineral – with lovely touches of charcuterie and wild herbs to boot. We want to describe the texture and style as ‘bony’ due to its lean elegance and dry, sappy tannins, yet underneath there is amazing suppleness in the taught structure. Already being hailed by neighbouring wineries and journalists around the world as one of the greatest red wines from this area, this Malbec is testament to the incredible potential of Altamira and the superb skills of a great young talent in Juanfa Suarez.
