BS Late Harvest Moscatel Block 1 Lorca

Block 1 Late Harvest Moscatel 2023

Mauricio Lorca

Here’s another great example of Mauricio Lorca’s willingness to try something new in response to our UK market wants and desires. A few years ago, gasp! we found ourselves without a single dessert wine from Argentina. Mauricio to the rescue!

The fruit is made from old Moscatel Amarillo vines grown in Rivadavia in the East of Mendoza at 650 MASL and is picked a few weeks after the normal harvest time, thus concentrating sugar levels whilst retaining vibrant acidity. Fermentation took place in a single 1,000 litre stainless steel tank (tiny production) and afterwards spent a short time in new French oak barrels to give the wine a lovely, subtle kiss of vanilla pod. On the nose there are delightful floral aromas and, in the mouth, with ‘only’ 68 grams of residual sugar per litre, the wine is as fresh and lively as it is sweet. A very happy addition to our burgeoning range of wines made from native Criolla varieties.
