Viña Monty Garnacha Reserva 2015
This revival of Bodegas Montecillo’s top label – Viña Monty – celebrates their 150th anniversary of winemaking in Rioja Alta. The Garnacha grapes come from two different plots. One of them is more than 80 years old, and is located in a small village called Arenzana in Rioja Alta, at 542 metres altitude. This gives the blend sublime acidity, harmony and elegance. The other one is in Rioja Oriental near the Ebro River, at 350 metres. There we find a greater level of clay in the soil, and more vigorous vines with greater sun exposure. This adds powerful colour, tannins and alcohol to the resulting wine. Very rich and ripe Garnacha with plenty of new oak, packed with red and dark berries and plums. The palate has a swathe of juicy tannins and a succulent, long and concentrated finish.
