Underground Pet Nat Albariño 2024
Viña Progreso
This wine was preceded in Ucopia’s portfolio by a Pet Nat Torrontés from Viña Progreso that was so popular we didn’t even have time to put it on this website before it sold out. Naturally, we ordered more but the winery plan had changed and the Pet Nat would now be Albariño! It turns they don’t have enough Torrontés to satisfy demand (who knew they had any?!) and we exhaled somewhat deflated. But the good news is, this wine is every bit as delicious as its predecessor. You know how Pet Nat is made so we won’t go there, suffice to say the pop produces only a reassuringly small amount of muddy gunk before the cloudy fizz pours defiantly into the glass.
From our point of view, this is not just a bandwagon wine. It is clean and fresh and dainty on the nose with delightful aromas of ripe green pears, apples and a touch of gala melon, and the finish is surprisingly long. It does not taste like the end of a barn dance in Devon.
